A positive experience for me

| The Good |
I was put up in a spacious new apartment just a 10 minute walk from the school. Although the material it was built from and the quality of workmanship was less than what I’d expect in Canada, it was very comfortable. Because of in-floor heating and air -conditioning it was toasty warm in winter and cool in summer. The neighborhood was friendly and I felt safe there.
The headmaster, staff and co-teachers treated me well. I didn't have any disputes with my contract or salary.
Compared to other Chinese cities, Daqing is spacious, modern, has very few traffic jams, and has clean air. |
| The Bad |
The teaching methods there follow a set pattern which is rather rigid.
Due to Daqing's recent development, it is culturally desolate. Apart from some large parks and squares, the museum, temple and shopping malls, I found it to be a dull city. Not many foreigners live in the city. |
| Overall |
Joy School proved to be a good transition for me as it was my first time to teach ESL. The structured lesson plans were a good starting point for me.
I have many happy memories of working at Joy School! |

| The Good |
The school was well equipped with books, teaching guides, lesson outlines and teaching materials. The accommodation was above average and close to the school. I did not experience any disputes with my salary. |
| The Bad |
Due to its short history, Daqing is rather a culturally desolate city. Working hours are mainly during weekends and evenings. |
| Overall |
Joy School was an excellent place for me to begin working. I was well treated by the administration of the school, my Chinese co-teachers, and the parents of my students. I enjoyed preparing my lessons and teaching my students. |
