General School Info
| School Description (NOT A REVIEW) | Minibees is Guangzhou’s premiere English language training school. We offer English language instruction to all age groups, but our focus is on the 4 – 15 year old student. Our students have won several national English language competitions, and that is why parents send their children to us to learn English. We have a reputation of teaching students to master English as a whole language. That means that we focus on the joy of communicating in a foreign language, rather than simply teaching students to pass standardized tests when they are older. (Although, our students perform quite well in that area as well…naturally.) We support our teachers by providing books, CDs/tapes, lesson planning sessions, and workshops. Each new teacher is also provided with a professional mentor who serves as a "sounding board" to help deal with classroom and/or pedagogical issues. Class sizes range from 15-20, depending on age of students. Because our focus is on younger children, we’re really looking for someone special. For instance, we would be very interested in someone who is not afraid to pretend to be a train engine one day in class, and who only allows children who can produce a "ch"- word to join the train, (chair, cherry, chug, cheery….) and then chug…chug…chugs around the classroom in celebration, all the time encouraging the remaining students to join the train.. If that’s you – drop us a line! |

| The Good | Some of the school houses are quite nice. |
| The Bad |
Where to begin? The owners appear to be a pair of twin sisters and one of their husbands from America. The American often comes off as professional at first but most employees later find out that is off his rocker. There are so many examples of his bizarre behavior, but perhaps the best example is his obsession with cats. Not only do cats live in one of the school's primary offices/teaching facilities, but some cabinets have been cleaned out in order to build a 5-star kitty resort. This from the same man who claims to demand professionalism on all fronts seems a bit unusual. Brian the owner in question, also mentioned that in his lucid dreams he can connect with the dream worlds of some cats and convince them to use magic to transform him into a cat and let him experience the joys of bounding around. Sadly, this last was actually said in earnest and is not being taken out of context. The hours are extremely long and the pay far sub-par. The other two owners are twin sisters, one of whom terrifies the Chinese staff members and the other is passive aggressive. The staff is constantly turning over, and only one foreign teacher seems to have ever lasted more than a single year with these people. It may be worth noting that they are unable to acquire new working visas for any staff member not presently holding a working visa. |
| Overall | Steer clear of this place. Too much work and the owners range from passive aggressive to stark raving mad. |
