| The Good |
I am glad that I do not seem to be the only one who had a less than desirable experience at Clifford School in China. Let me start out with the things I liked about it. Most of my colleagues have been pretty cool enough, and the school facilities are not too bad. The housing is quite nice, too. Though I have heard many stories directly from other staff about how other students at Clifford School can be nothing short of little hellions, my own students were mostly okay. Now, let me talk about the “bad.” 我很高兴我并不是唯一一个在中国祈福英语试验学校有着失望经历的人.让我以一些我喜欢的事情开始.大多数同事都不错,学校的设施也挺好的.房子非常的好.尽管我的一些同事说有些学生简直是小捣蛋,但是我的学生大本分都还不错.现在让我来告诉你不好的部分. Clifford School in Panyu also has several major problems. The biggest one is the administration and parents. The administration has serious problems. I don’t even want to go into that. The parents are the same way; they often do more harm than good. This combination pushes a lot of really excellent teachers and students alike out of the school. These two factors alone are so significant that they negate pretty much everything else Clifford School offers. 番禺祈福英语学校主要有这样几个问题.最大的问题就是他们的管理领导和家长.他们的管理有着很严肃的问题.我都不想谈那些.家长也一样,他们经常做一些不好的事情.这些问题促使很多好的老师和学生离开了学校.这两个主要的问题很重要掩盖了很多好的部分. If I had kids I certainly would not send them to Clifford School. I cannot in good conscience advise others to work there, either. There are much better schools both in Guangzhou and China as a whole. If you are able, please seek them out and avoid teaching or sending your kids here. 如果我有孩子,我绝对不会把孩子送到祈福英语学校读书的.我也不会建议其他人到那里工作.在中国广州有很多好的学校.如果有可能,请避免到这里教学或者送你的孩子到那里上学. |

| The Good |
The housing is much better than it used to be when I first arrived. It used to be pretty bad, and that, too, caused many of us to leave. Now it is much better than before. The housing is situated in a part of Guangzhou that has less pollution that the rest of Guangzhou. Shopping is easily available, but it is wise to avoid Clifford Hospital. Like many hospitals in China, they try to offer you an IV for almost everything, and the doctors don't seem to know what is in the IVs they are giving you. I was not there at the time, but I heard from another friend of mine that a teacher who is currently there got sick this school year and went to the hospital. From what I am told, he ended up so sick from the medicine that they gave him that the doctors wanted to operate on him for something they themselves had caused! He went elsewhere and found non-surgical treatment, as I am told, and that is good. It still cost him thousands of dollars, from what I am told. Clifford Hospital is very close and convenient, but so is Dr. Death. The insurance Clifford School offers pretty much requires you to go to Clifford Hospital or another slipshod one or face a lack of coverage. Most wise people pass on it completely.. Some of the students are nice and do try their best. Some of the parents can be really awesome and supportive. The facilities are adequate, though the library is a tad too small. |

I am writing a review of Clifford School in Guangzhou, China and one of its assistant principals there. The school itself has a nice building and many nice staff members. The parents can be seriously out of control "helicopter parents," and the administration lets them get away with far too much. On certain days they allow the parents to videotape everything. Many of them come equipped with phones, video cameras, the works. Some of them are nice, but when you try to do nice things for most of them, they just want more and more. There is seldom, if ever, an "enough." Many of them are simply never satisfied. The more you give, the more they want! Many of the students there at Clifford School are sweet enough. However, a lot of the students fight, hit and punch others all the time. It's not worth the headache to ever work at that school. They just don't pay enough for what most people have to go through! Since Clifford School has a very high turnover rate, new teachers are often in as soon as they are out, and the same is true with other staff. Many of the students fight, kick and punch each other all of the time. Some of the parents are supportive, but many are not. Many of them leave their children there at the school for a very long time (i.e.., 75%) and expect the teachers and teaching assistants to do everything for their children while they go off and pursue a career and/or hobbies. What's worse, many of the students see their Chinese teachers as people to be taken seriously and the foreign ones as people to laugh at and ignore. Foreign teachers' classrooms are, to many of the students, seen as playpens of sorts, while they pay strict attention in their Chinese classes--or else! *Name Removed* is one of the assistant elementary school principals there. He’s not a bad guy. He's just not an effective communicator and holds grudges against people like you would not believe. I have seen him do that with many others, and I don't doubt that he still does it. It is unfortunate that he never really sees his own faults very often. You don't want to work under him or with him under any circumstances. I worked with him two years ago when he first started out but hear from others that he still has not changed.. Never work under him! STAY AWAY FROM CLIFFORD SCHOOL IN GUANGZHOU, CHINA!!! |
