| The Good |
Kids, as always, are usually keen and excited to have a foreign teacher provided you make class fun and interesting (such as more English games, less like a lesson). At the moment the academic side of the university, including the academic liaison, is brilliant with very smooth dealings. They will try to get the timetable you're after and the rooms you desire. |
| The Bad |
The other side of admin (outside and very separate from academics) that deal with your contract, pay, and housing... are abysmal. They won't lift a finger to settle you in, show you around, and certainly don't care if you are happy or not. They're more into saving money than getting good teachers. Meaning, if something breaks in your apartment, they attempt to 'repair it' forever and the phrase "it still works" is often bandied around. The apartments and equipment are getting beyond repair with ACs that don't cool and fridges that leak, etc. In my time here, 2 people have bailed and one experienced enough in less than 24 hours to know this wasn't a good place to hang around. |
| Overall |
If you know the town of Jiaxing, or you're after a 'boot camp' type of experience then come along - your welcome. Otherwise, use the bargepole approach! If you know the 'broken window' theory - it's definitely in play at this institution. Everything's broken (physical things and relationship handling) and admin don't care, therefore teachers begin to care less also. Bad feelings all around. |
